It feels so good to be able to finally post this gorgeous lakeside woodland intimate wedding inspiration story we’ve all been dying to share with you. Putting together this shoot (with the help of talented stylist Claire) has taken me way out of my comfort zone on so many levels, but boy am I glad I reached out to so many amazing people – thank you SO much to everyone who said YES to collaborating with me, I’m so happy we got to do this together! 🖤

A Winter Wedding

This intimate woodland wedding inspiration is now LIVE on Junebug Weddings and I’m so proud to have our hard work published on the most prestigious alternative weddings blog in the world!!

I’d been searching for a unique, wild blank canvas kind of space to transform with our vision. Although it took me a while to find Frickley lake, it was well worth the search! Frickley only do a small number of intimate weddings per year which and it felt really special being able to set up on this hidden treasure of a venue!

The Tablescape

I knew from the very start lighting would play a major role in this and that I’d be hanging lots of halogen bulbs above our table and Lighting with Intent totally matched my vision! Also, they put together a bespoke frame for our over-the-top table installation which talented Rachel Grimes dressed with individually-hung silver dyed and dried fern stems.

Our amazing stylist Claire of Butler & White arranged simple yet stunning typography stationery from Sixfold Studio and adorned the dark wood table from Co-ordination Hire with stone tableware, ceramic vases and an eclectic mix of candlesticks and gorgeous, tall tapered candles. Not to mention she elevated the shoot with some delicate jewellery from Agnes Walker and luxurious Harriet Wilde red velvet shoes.

Intimate Woodland Winter Wedding Inspiration

We wanted to reflect the darkness of winter as well as the beauty of wilderness in the UK in our shoot. So, we had black accents throughout our styling elements and flowers, with black ceramic bowls and dark smoked glass on the table to the black berries in Rachel’s stunning, delicate bouquet. It shows off a beautiful contrast between the pureness of the orchids and the wild dried fern. Then she tied the bouquet together with a silk ribbon hand-dyed by Claire of Butler & White.

Flower Crowns and Flame-red Hair

The exquisite flower crown Rachel made was one of my favourite elements of the shoot, featuring beautiful dried hydrangea. It perfectly adorned Gracie’s red hair, which Poppy Tallulah styled to perfection a for the morning look.

Needless to say it was freezing cold as we shot this in late November, so Claire brought cozy blankets which she placed on the stylish rustic oak loopback chairs. We may have used them to keep warm at times!

Beauty

Our wonderful makeup artist Poppy Tallulah created a natural, effortless makeup look for the morning, and darkened Gracie’s lips and eyes for the ceremony and evening celebrations.

The Dress

Cara from Story of My Dress supplied her beautiful, timeless Clemmie dress from her new collection as well as a tulle cape which complemented the moody atmosphere of the location and shoot perfectly.

The boat and bonfire

The venue boasts a gorgeous old wooden boat which the woods have already started to claim back. Inspired by this, Rachel constructed an impressive dried fern installation which she placed at the front of the boat, leaving it to trail to the ground. To brighten up the corner for our newlyweds, Lighting with Intent placed a gorgeous chandelier and festoon lights. Later on when darkness eventually came, they lit a fire in the fire pit to keep us all warm. Adding to the winter mood, Claire styled the fire pit area with rugs, cushions and throws for a cosy November evening vibe. Bring on the mulled wine! (We did bring on the mulled wine, not gonna lie).

We hope this intimate woodland wedding inspiration shoot will encourage more couples to ditch traditions and expectations and to not be scared to celebrate the great British outdoors – even in November!
